James Gibson is one of a collection of talented artists known as the "Highwaymen" from the east central coast of Florida. These artists pioneered a provincal style of painting referred to as the "Indian River Style" regional to the area of Florida known as the Treasure Coast. Mr. Gibson has been featured in People Magazine (August 11, 2003) and in a recent PBS documentary about the Highwaymen. The painting below is typical of Gibson's early work which often depicted Florida beach scenes in black and white and one other accent color.

The painting below was painted in 2002 and represents an emergence of Gibson's style to encompass a more vivid palette of color.
