Cecil Rochfort D'Oyly-John lived from 1906-1993. He took up painting as a pastime after being wounded and temporarily blinded by an explosion during the Second World War. His natural talent and unique treatment of color earned him uncommon fame and success during his lifetime. His paintings were acquired by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I for the Royal collection and by many other notable collectors worldwide.
The oil on canvas below of Hamilton Harbour in Bermuda illustrates the artist's genius and technique in which objects are made up of several different colors, but seem initially to be of one shade or tone.
